Two arrested in Walewale for stealing a pistol from immigration officer

Two young men have been arrested by the Walewale Police in Ghana’s North East Region for stealing a pistol and ammunition from an Immigration officer.

According to a police press release dated May 19, 2025, the suspects — 18-year-old Mohammed Basit and 22-year-old Baba Rasid — broke into the room of the Immigration officer at approximately 12:00pm on Saturday, May 17, 2025, while the officer was away.

The statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mr. Robert Anabik Anmain of the Public Relations Unit, NER, indicated:

“The two suspects, Mohammed Basit age 18 years and Baba Rasid, age 22, entered the room of the Immigration officer at about 12:00pm on Saturday, 17/5/2025, while he was away and stole the officer’s Smith and Wesson Pistol loaded with ten rounds of ammunition as well as his two CZ rifle magazines loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition each.”

Authorities were able to apprehend the suspects through intelligence-led efforts. They were found at Kperiga, a suburb of Walewale, attempting to hide the stolen weapons and ammunition in a stationary vehicle.

“Through intelligence, the suspects were arrested at Kperiga, a suburb of Walewale, where the suspects had gone to hide the pistol and ammunition in a stationary vehicle,” the statement noted.

The suspects are currently in custody while investigations continue. The police confirmed that the two will be brought before the court.

“Investigations are ongoing and suspects will be put before court,” the statement concluded.
