Two Ghanaian pilgrims reportedly die during Hajj

The Ghana Hajj Taskforce has confirmed the unfortunate passing of two Ghanaian pilgrims in Mecca during the ongoing 2025 Hajj pilgrimage.

This year, about 6,000 pilgrims from Ghana embarked on the sacred journey to Saudi Arabia.

While the majority are expected to complete the pilgrimage without incident, the Taskforce revealed that in addition to the two deaths, five individuals were sent back home due to complications related to their travel documentation.

In an interview with Citi News, the Head of Corporate Affairs for the Hajj Taskforce, Alhaji A.B.A. Fuseini, clarified the situation regarding the five repatriated pilgrims.

“Some said they were deported, but we choose to use the word ‘repatriated.’

Deportation connotes some criminality, but these people who have returned have not committed any crime. It was an error in the issuance of their visa,” he explained.

Alhaji Fuseini further elaborated on the nature of the visa issues that led to the pilgrims’ return.

“Some attempts to realign the visas resulted in some unfortunate mistakes where their visas were withdrawn. I can assure you that we are making every effort to get them to go back,” he assured.
