Two men jailed 15 years for robbing and raping 19-year-old hairdresser

The Tema Regional Police have announced the conviction of two men involved in a brutal rape and robbery case that occurred along the Apollonia–Afienya road on September 27, 2025.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 7, the police said the crime involved a 19-year-old hairdresser who had hired one of the suspects, Nicholas Tetteh, as a motor rider to take her to Afienya.

Along the journey, Tetteh allegedly conspired with two others, including Joseph Tetteh, to attack the victim.

“Investigations revealed that the victim was dragged into a nearby bush, where she was sexually assaulted by two of the suspects.

They also took her iPhone XR and handbag containing GHC 150.00,” the police said.

The case was reported to the Zenu–Atadeka District Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), where the victim received medical attention after giving her statement.

Police later arrested the suspects, who were charged with robbery and rape.

Nicholas Tetteh and Joseph Tetteh were subsequently arraigned before the Gbetsile Circuit Court, presided over by Her Ladyship Eleanor Kakra Barns Botchway.

According to the statement, “They pleaded guilty to the robbery charge and were each sentenced to fifteen (15) years imprisonment in hard labour.”

The police further explained that the two convicts will face additional proceedings on the rape charge once advice is received from the Attorney-General’s Office.

ASP Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs for Tema Police, assured the public of their commitment to ensuring justice. “We assure the public of our continued efforts to ensure justice for the victim and maintain public safety,” the statement concluded.
