Two remanded for murder after failed ‘juju’ ritual to win victim’s love

Two young men, Richard Armah, 28, and Isaac Arhin, 24, also known as Fresh DJ, have been remanded into police custody in connection with the gruesome murder of 21-year-old seamstress Zenabu Tahiru at Kokoase, a suburb of Twifo Praso in the Central Region.

The suspects made their first appearance before the Twifo Praso District Court on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, where the presiding judge, Maxwell Kpodo, remanded them to police custody. They are expected to reappear in court on May 21, 2025.

The court proceedings drew a large crowd of community members, many of whom gathered in and around the courtroom demanding justice for Zenabu. Her tragic death has sent shockwaves through the local community.

Zenabu’s body was discovered on April 3, 2025, with a cloth tied around her neck and blood on her hands.

Police investigators also found a container of super glue, a used condom wrapper, and an apple at the scene, suggesting signs of a possible ritualistic or sexually motivated crime.

Central North Regional Police Commander, DCOP Abraham Acquaye, said preliminary investigations revealed that Armah had shown romantic interest in Zenabu, which she rejected.

Arhin, a friend of Armah, allegedly introduced him to a spiritualist who performed a ritual — commonly referred to as “for girls” — aimed at winning Zenabu’s affection.

However, when the ritual failed, Arhin and the spiritualist are suspected to have gone to Zenabu’s home, where they allegedly sexually assaulted and murdered her, fearing she had identified them.

Following the incident, Zenabu’s mobile phone was reportedly taken and handed over to Armah for safekeeping.

The police used tracking technology to trace the phone, leading to Armah’s arrest. During interrogation, he implicated Arhin, who was also taken into custody.

DCOP Acquaye assured the public that investigations are progressing steadily and called for calm as the police continue to gather evidence.

He further appealed to the public for any information that could assist in the ongoing investigation.
