Twum Boafo calls for accountability from former officials, including Ken Ofori-Atta

Former Ghana Free Zones Authority CEO Albert Kwadwo Twum Boafo has called for greater accountability from past public officials, emphasizing that citizens have a right to question the stewardship of leaders who managed the country’s economy between 2007 and 2024.

Twum Boafo criticized former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta for remaining abroad, noting that several figures in past administrations had faced similar scrutiny but responded differently.

“He has a lot of questions to answer on how he steered this economy and people will want to know,” Twum Boafo said in an interview on GHone TV monitored by MyNewsGh, adding that he would have preferred the former minister to return voluntarily.

Reflecting on his own experiences, Twum Boafo recounted being placed on a stop-travel list despite requiring medical attention, and how interventions prevented his detention.

He emphasized that accountability should not be selective and that it is fair for citizens to demand explanations from officials regarding their public service.

While Twum Boafo confirmed that Ken Fueta is no longer on the radar of the Financial Intelligence Centre, he stressed that the OSP and Attorney General’s office remain responsible for ensuring former leaders answer for their administrative decisions.

“I think it is fair for people to be asked to account for their stewardship,” he said.
