U.S. Embassy outlines Ghana visa stats for 2024

The United States Embassy in Ghana has revealed that it issued 25,000 visas to Ghanaian applicants in 2024, out of a total of 61,000 applications received.

This announcement was made during a Consular Media Day event held on May 9, 2025, which aimed to educate the public on U.S. visa procedures and encourage lawful travel to the United States.

Addressing the media, U.S. Consular General Elliot Fertik emphasized the importance of following immigration laws, warning that violations could result in severe penalties.

“We continue to welcome Ghanaians who wish to study, invest, or conduct business in the United States. But with that opportunity comes responsibility,” Fertik said.

“Those who violate U.S. immigration laws risk having their visas refused or revoked, and in some cases, facing permanent bans.”

Fertik reaffirmed the U.S. government’s commitment to both facilitating legitimate travel and protecting its borders. He noted that while more Ghanaians are taking the right steps to apply for visas legally, the embassy is also focused on improving transparency and the overall applicant experience.

“We’ve made noticeable improvements to enhance the visa application process and customer experience,” he said. “We want every applicant to understand the process and their obligations clearly.”

He urged potential travelers to avoid relying on unauthorized agents or engaging in fraudulent practices, reiterating that adherence to the law is non-negotiable.

“Our mission is to support lawful travel while enforcing rules that keep our borders secure,” Fertik concluded.
