UCC still struggles with infrastructure despite major achievements – Vice Chancellor

Despite making notable strides in higher education, the University of Cape Coast (UCC) continues to face significant infrastructural challenges, Vice Chancellor Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong has revealed.

“At the moment, the University does not have enough residential facilities to accommodate all the students who apply to study in the University,” Prof. Boampong said, expressing concern that UCC’s growth in academic reputation has not been matched by corresponding improvements in infrastructure.

He noted that ongoing efforts to partner with private investors to address the situation have so far been unsuccessful.

“Efforts and commitment to collaborate with investors to help resolve this problem have proven futile,” he lamented.

Appealing to stakeholders, Prof. Boampong called on government agencies, development partners, corporate institutions, and philanthropic individuals to support the University in bridging its infrastructure gap.

“Together, we can create a future where quality education is accessible to every Ghanaian, regardless of geography,” he said.

He further disclosed that UCC urgently needs to modernize classrooms, upgrade its digital infrastructure, and expand access to underserved areas.

“Limited financial resources hinder our ability to provide essential teaching materials, refurbish facilities, and roll out enhanced digital learning tools,” he added.

The Vice Chancellor made these remarks at the 15th session of the 57th congregation of the University of Cape Coast, held for postgraduate and School of Graduate Studies.

A total of 1,187 graduands from the School of Graduate Studies received degrees, diplomas, and certificates during the ceremony.

Despite the challenges, Prof. Boampong affirmed the University’s unwavering commitment to strengthening graduate education.

“We will continue to mobilize the necessary resources, foster strategic partnerships, and create an environment that supports impactful research and postgraduate training,” he stated.
