Unacceptable and disgraceful – Kumawu MP slams two male teachers who fought over a woman

Member of Parliament for the Kumawu Constituency, Hon. Ernest Yaw Anim, has expressed strong disapproval over a violent altercation involving two male teachers at a school in Pepease, describing the incident as “highly unacceptable, unprofessional, and a disgrace to the teaching profession.”

In an official statement released from his office, the MP condemned the incident, which reportedly stemmed from a dispute over a female colleague, calling on the Ghana Education Service (GES) to immediately investigate and sanction those responsible.

“I have taken note of the disturbing incident that occurred at a school in Pepease, where two male teachers were involved in a physical altercation over a female colleague.

“I wish to state, unequivocally, that such behavior is highly unacceptable, unprofessional, and a disgrace to the teaching profession,” Hon. Anim stated.

He stressed that educators are expected to embody discipline, maturity, and a strong moral compass, emphasizing that the incident reflects a “gross lack of self-control.”

“Two teachers allowed a personal disagreement to degenerate into violence on school premises. This is deeply disappointing and reflects a gross lack of self-control,” he added.

The MP lamented that the conduct not only disrespected the institution but also undermined the respect and authority teachers are meant to uphold.

“This shameful episode not only brings disrepute to the school and the wider educational community but also undermines the authority and respect that teachers are meant to embody.”

Calling for urgent measures, Hon. Anim urged the GES to treat the matter with the seriousness it deserves.

“I therefore call on the Ghana Education Service (GES) to launch an immediate investigation into the matter and apply appropriate sanctions where necessary.”

He also appealed to the school’s administration to offer psychological support and counseling to any students who may have been affected by witnessing the incident.

“I also urge the school’s administration to offer psychological support and counseling to students who may have been traumatized by the incident, ensuring that their emotional and mental well-being is not neglected.”

In his concluding remarks, the Kumawu MP underscored the need to uphold professionalism in Ghana’s educational institutions.

“We must work together to uphold professionalism and order within our schools. Our educators must be shining examples, individuals our children can look up to, not fear or question,” he stressed.
