US strike on Iran undermines diplomacy, leaves countries like Ghana exposed – Security Analyst warns

Security analyst Dr. Ishmael Norman has issued a stark warning following the recent U.S. military strike on Iran, calling it a devastating blow to global diplomacy and a major destabilising act in the Middle East.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Monday, 23 June, Dr. Norman, who is also the President of the Institute for Security, Disaster and Emergency Studies, argued that such preemptive military actions erode any hope of meaningful dialogue.

“You cannot take pre-emptive military action and then ask your adversary to sit at the negotiation table. The trust is gone,” he asserted.

He further warned of the far-reaching consequences for countries far removed from the conflict zone, including Ghana.

According to Dr. Norman, the ripple effect of increased global tensions could place Ghana at serious risk, particularly if unconventional weapons are used in retaliatory strikes.

“We are vulnerable. If radioactive weapons or dirty bombs are deployed, the lack of protective infrastructure like gas masks, shelters, and bunkers makes countries like Ghana highly exposed,” he cautioned.
