Vice President outlines six-thematic approach for decentralisation reforms

The Vice President, Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has presented the National Decentralisation Policy Framework and Strategy (2026–2030) to the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee (IMCC), outlining a roadmap for advancing local governance across Ghana.

The Policy and Strategy, which spans six thematic areas, including Political Decentralisation, Administrative Decentralisation, Fiscal Decentralisation, Decentralised Planning, Local Economic Development, and Popular Participation and Accountability, was examined in detail by Committee members.

Recommendations were made to refine the document and ensure its effective implementation once approved.

“The new Policy and Strategy provides a coherent roadmap across six thematic areas,” the Vice President explained, highlighting the structured approach designed to ensure coordinated reform efforts across all sectors.

She stressed that prioritising activities within ministerial mandates is key to championing the implementation of national decentralisation reforms.

The presentation of the framework underscores the government’s commitment to institutionalizing decentralisation reforms and ensuring that policy decisions translate into tangible outcomes for local communities.

The Vice President affirmed that the IMCC will play a central role in monitoring and guiding the reforms to ensure accountability and sustained progress.
