Water is a sacred trust – Minister charges Ghana Water Board

The Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, has called on the newly inaugurated Board of Directors of Ghana Water Limited (GWL) to prioritize transparency, integrity, and discipline in their stewardship of the country’s urban water systems.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony in Accra, Mr. Adjei emphasized that the board’s mandate goes beyond recognition of past achievements. It is, he said, a clear instruction to chart a bold and accountable path forward.
“Your appointment is not merely a ceremonial acknowledgment of previous accomplishments. It is a strategic directive for future performance,” the Minister said.
He urged the board to lead with vision and foster collaboration while remaining steadfast in their duty to serve the public interest.
“You must lead with vision, act with integrity, manage with discipline, and govern with transparency,” he stated.
Underscoring the critical role of water access in national development, Mr. Adjei reminded the board that their work impacts not just infrastructure, but lives.
“Let there be alignment in vision. Let there be collaboration in execution. But above all, let there be a shared commitment to service and to delivering water not just as a commodity, but as a human right and a sacred trust,” he charged.
The new board is expected to drive policies that improve water delivery, strengthen institutional accountability, and promote water as a fundamental human necessity across Ghana’s urban areas.
