We are coming for all of you – Sam George to MoMo fraudsters after 141 arrests at Tabora and Lashibi

A major coordinated crackdown on organised cybercrime syndicates operating within the country has led to the arrest of 141 suspects in a single early-morning operation.

Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, disclosed that the intelligence-driven exercise was executed jointly by the Cyber Security Authority, the Ghana Police Service, National Security, and the Ghana Immigration Service.

“This morning, the Cyber Security Authority Ghana, in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, National Security, and the Ghana Immigration Service HQ, conducted a coordinated early-morning operation targeting organised cybercrime networks,” the Minister stated in post sighted by MyNewsGh.

The operation focused on two identified hotspots, Tabora and Lashibi, where cybercriminal groups were allegedly running large-scale digital fraud schemes. According to the Minister, 100 suspects were arrested in Tabora, while 41 others were picked up in Lashibi, bringing the total number of arrests to 141.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects are believed to be Nigerian nationals,” Sam George revealed.

Security operatives also seized tools suspected to have been used in cyber-enabled financial crimes, including 38 laptops and 150 mobile phones, which are currently undergoing forensic examination.

The Minister further confirmed the arrest of a Ghanaian landlord who housed about 100 of the suspects, stressing that property owners cannot distance themselves from criminal activities taking place on their premises.

“Landlords have a duty to ensure that their premises are not used to facilitate or perpetuate crime,” he said.

According to Sam George, the suspects are linked to crimes such as Mobile Money fraud, Business Email Compromise, romance scams, sextortion, and wire fraud. He assured the public that all individuals found culpable would be prosecuted under Ghanaian law.

He ended his statement by sayying; “Ghana remains welcoming to all of our friends and neighbours interested in legitimate enterprise. However, if you are interested in committing a cybercrime, we will find you, arrest you, and deal with you decisively according to our laws.”
