We are correcting past mistakes – Finance Minister on IMF programme

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has reaffirmed the government’s dedication to meeting the conditions of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme while ensuring the successful completion of Ghana’s debt restructuring efforts.

“We have taken concrete steps to correct the structural benchmarks that were missed under the previous government, and the results will soon be evident,” Dr. Forson stated.

He acknowledged that Ghana had previously failed to meet certain structural targets under the IMF programme but assured that corrective measures have been put in place to realign with the required benchmarks.

Addressing Ghana’s ongoing debt restructuring, he highlighted significant progress made in negotiations with external creditors. The focus, he noted, is now on finalizing individual bilateral agreements, a crucial step in stabilizing the economy.

Dr. Forson also called on Germany to support Ghana in expediting the restructuring process, emphasizing that securing these agreements is essential for the country’s economic recovery.
