We didn’t let Ashantis down

NPP stalwart Gabby Otchere-Darko has rejected claims that the party neglected the Ashanti Region, describing such criticisms as misplaced and unfair.

Touching on what he called misconceptions about the government’s development record, he argued that the Ashanti Region had, in fact, received major infrastructure projects, particularly in the area of road construction.

“I heard somebody say in Ashanti Region that we let Ashantis down because we didn’t fix their roads,” he said.

“But I have been in meetings where MPs from Ashanti have said that even though they want flyovers, they preferred their community roads done. And in politics, you are supposed to give people what they say they want, not what you think they want.”

He explained that the government prioritized the needs identified by local leaders, and those decisions resulted in visible road improvements across several communities.

“When you look at the number of roads that was done in Ashanti Region per capita across the country, you can’t say that NPP let Ashanti Region down,” he emphasized.

Otchere-Darko further advised party members to remain confident and unapologetic about their achievements as they look ahead to the 2028 elections.

“Yet, an NPP person was apologizing for disappointing Ashantis, for neglecting Ashanti Region. Now if you want to win in 2028, and this is your attitude?” he questioned.
