We don’t know his whereabouts – Family speaks after EOCO picks up Kofi Akpaloo

The leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo, has allegedly been picked up by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), family sources have disclosed.

Relatives told Citi News that the 2024 presidential candidate was taken from his Kumasi residence, but the reasons for his detention remain unclear.

His current whereabouts are also unknown. EOCO has yet to release an official statement, leaving the circumstances of his arrest surrounded by uncertainty.

Mr. Akpaloo is a known figure in Ghanaian politics, often appealing to younger voters with his campaigns. Though his party is relatively small, it has managed to carve out some visibility in the national space.

The development comes weeks after Mr. Akpaloo publicly apologised for controversial remarks he made following the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed eight lives in Adansi Akrofuom on August 6, 2025.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s *Ekosii Sen*, the LPG founder expressed regret, saying his earlier comments were borne out of grief and frustration.

“I am not happy at all, and I feel terrible that my comments caused pain to many people and families. I am sincerely sorry and ask for their forgiveness,” he said.

He further explained that his outburst stemmed from the sorrow of losing his friend, Dr. Omane Boamah, in the crash.

“My brother Omane Boamah is not someone I can betray. I was devastated when I heard of his passing.

“My reaction came from the pain of knowing that people are dying almost every day in this country, and we seem to have normalised it,” he clarified.

For now, the reason behind EOCO’s intervention remains a mystery.
