We fully accept the mediation report

Government has formally endorsed the Bawku Conflict Mediation Report presented by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, describing it as a comprehensive roadmap toward lasting peace in the area.

The government said it had “carefully reviewed and deliberated upon” the report and fully accepted its findings and recommendations in an official statement issued on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.

“The Government fully endorses and accepts all the findings and recommendations contained in the Mediation Report,” the statement said, stressing that the document is “fact-based, forward-looking and exclusively aimed at achieving lasting peace, reconciliation and stability in Bawku and its surrounding areas.”

The government reaffirmed its position on the legality of the Bawku chieftaincy, noting that the Supreme Court has consistently upheld the authority of the Naaba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II.

“The Government affirms the unequivocal position of the law that Naaba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II is the lawful Bawku Naba, and that no individual or group is permitted, under any circumstances, to contest his authority or legitimacy,” the statement added.

As part of the mediation outcomes, the government accepted the recommendation for Alhaji Seidu Abagre, installed as a rival chief, to be recalled to Nalerigu by the Overlord of Mamprugu, the Nayiri, to assume an alternative traditional role.

“The Government will immediately facilitate the safe movement of Alhaji Seidu Abagre to Nalerigu, where he shall remain available to receive the directives of the Nayiri,” it stated.

The government further appealed to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to continue his leadership in supporting reconciliation efforts between the Mamprusi and Kusasi communities.
