We need US support to bring Ofori-Atta to Ghana

Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has cautioned that bringing former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta back to Ghana through extradition could be challenging, but insisted that the process must be pursued to ensure accountability.

Speaking on TV3’s Key Points on Saturday, August 23, Kpebu explained:

“Extradition processes can be very complicated. We are hoping that the American government will cooperate with us because we really need him to come down and account to Ghanaians.”

His comments come weeks after the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) officially reclassified Ofori-Atta as a fugitive from justice.

According to the OSP, the former minister repeatedly failed to honour a long-standing summons to appear in person for interrogation.

The OSP has now gone beyond Ghana’s borders, formally requesting INTERPOL to issue a red notice for Ofori-Atta’s arrest and possible extradition.
