We will speak to the delegates

Kwasi Kwarteng has downplayed the significance of the ballot position secured by the flagbearer hopeful in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming internal elections.
Speaking to reporters after the balloting exercise held at the NPP headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra, on Friday, October 10, the member of Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign team, emphasized that their focus remains on engaging delegates rather than relying on symbolism or numbers.
“I’m sure you will even agree with me on that point as well,” he told journalists.
“Well, you also mentioned a while ago that your candidate in the 2024 elections was at number one and he still lost. So, it could really be a disadvantage to you as well, don’t you think? I mean, these are two separate elections, two different dynamics.”
Kwarteng, however, was quick to draw a distinction between past outcomes and their current campaign, suggesting that their ballot position carries a message of momentum.
“But, you see, the reverse is that from one to three or so, people would rather be lost. This time around, we would rather move from our original position. This time around, we are at number one. That should send a strong signal that we are coming up,” he explained.
He stressed that while the team welcomes their number one spot on the ballot, they view it as a divine occurrence rather than a predictor of success.
“But, you see, the most important thing is that we are not so much fixated on the numbers. What we believe is that whatever number that we choose is divine,” Kwarteng stated.
According to him, their campaign strategy remains rooted in connecting directly with delegates and sharing their vision for the party’s future.
“Most importantly, we go to the delegates, talk to them, and we are very hopeful that—I don’t know, like the Bible says, the heart of the king is in the heart of the Lord. And like the river that runs wherever he likes, wherever he turns. So, we are confident. We will speak to them,” he said.
