We won’t prosecute without evidence – Srem-Sai

Justice Srem-Sai has assured the public that the Attorney General’s office will not prosecute individuals without substantial evidence, addressing concerns about delays in legal action.

“We are not in the business of putting people before the court and then seeking permission to go and look for evidence. At least, we must have sufficient evidence before putting anyone before a criminal court,” he stated.

According to him, the government is committed to fighting corruption while upholding the rule of law. “We have seen instances where people are put on trial for years without evidence or conviction. That will not happen under this administration.”

His remarks come amid divided public opinion on the government’s handling of corruption cases, with some criticizing delays and others accusing officials of being too aggressive.

The former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison, had his residence raided by heavily armed National Security operatives on March 19, 2025.

The raid took place early in the morning at his Roman Ridge home in Accra.

The security personnel, some wearing balaclavas and carrying rifles, disabled the CCTV system and demanded access to “vaults” they believed were in the house. Dr. Addison, however, denied having any such vaults or hidden cash.

Despite his denial, the operatives ransacked the house, seized four of his vehicles, and took the CCTV monitor and control unit before leaving. No vaults or large sums of money were found. The raid left Dr. Addison and his family traumatized.

This is the second high-profile raid under President John Mahama’s administration, following a similar operation at the home of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta in February 2025
