We would have won if we were in power – Ofosu Nkansah on Akwatia defeat

New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart Kofi Ofosu Nkansah has described NDC’s win in the Akwatia by-election as a natural outcome of the constituency’s swing nature.
“Akwatia is a swing seat so it’s normal for the ruling party to win it. We would have also won if we were in power.
“There is no way NDC can win a by-election in a proper NPP stronghold,” Nkansah remarked after the results were declared.
His comments came after Bernard Bediako Baidoo of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) secured victory in one of the most fiercely contested elections of the year.
According to the Electoral Commission’s certified results, Bediako won with 18,199 votes, defeating NPP’s Kwame Asumadu, who garnered 15,235 votes.
The Liberal Party of Ghana’s (LPG) candidate, Owusu Patrick, managed only 82 votes. Out of the total ballots cast, 33,819 were valid, while 303 were rejected.
The by-election was necessitated by the death of Akwatia’s Member of Parliament, Ernest Kumi, earlier this year.
