We’ll make it public – Ayawaso West MCE promises transparency on building collapse

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ayawaso West, Dr. Michael Mensah, says a preliminary report into the Roman Ridge building collapse is expected by midday as authorities work to uncover the cause of the incident.
Speaking on the AM Show on JoyNews, Dr. Mensah assured the public that investigations began immediately after the collapse and would provide clarity soon.
“We want to start the investigation, so I believe that by midday or by close of day, we would have gotten details of what actually happened yesterday.”
He hinted that structural negligence may have contributed to the disaster.
“If the props or supports are not properly checked when casting concrete, you are likely to have problems of this nature.”
Dr. Mensah added that the findings will not be hidden from the public.
“If you want it public, we’ll make it public. We actually want to ensure that the right things are done.”
He further emphasized accountability and preventive action going forward.
“We’ll read through the findings carefully and make sure this does not happen again.”
His comments come as rescue efforts continue at the premises of the Architectural Engineering Group in Roman Ridge, where a storey building collapsed on Tuesday.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), workers were trapped under the rubble after the structure caved in. A rescue team from the GNFS Headquarters were deployed to the scene and has so far rescued 14 construction workers, all in critical condition.
The victims received emergency treatment at the 37 Military Hospital and the Ridge Hospital.
