We’re accelerating Ghana-Australia ties – Ablakwa

Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced renewed bilateral momentum between Ghana and Australia following what he described as “a fantastic engagement” with the Australian High Commissioner to Ghana, Her Excellency Berenice Owen-Jones.

Mr. Ablakwa revealed that both nations are looking to deepen collaboration in key sectors vital to sustainable development and economic growth.

“We underscored the renewed momentum of Ghana-Australia bilateral relations and committed to accelerating the gains,” he wrote in a post shared on his official Facebook page.

According to him, discussions centered on expanding cooperation in mining—particularly lithium—green energy transition, agricultural research, and academic scholarships.

“Both countries are determined to expand ongoing cooperation in mining, lithium and green transition, agriculture research and scholarships,” he added.

Meanwhile, Mr. Ablakwa also celebrated a major continental milestone—the African Union’s decision to extend its theme on Reparations for another ten years, from 2026 to 2036, with Ghana taking the lead as Champion Nation throughout the decade-long initiative.

The decision was made during the AU’s Mid-Year Review in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea. The Foreign Minister applauded the AU’s move and expressed pride in Ghana’s leadership role.

In a Facebook post on Monday, he wrote: “Congratulations to President John Mahama for the confidence reposed in him by the 55-country continental union.”
