We’re closing a difficult chapter in Ghana’s economic history – Ato Forson

Minister of Finance Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has expressed optimism about Ghana’s economic recovery, following what he describes as highly productive discussions with key financial stakeholders in China.

In a post on his official Facebook page, Dr. Forson revealed that his recent trip to China marked a critical step forward in finalising the country’s debt restructuring efforts.

“My trip to China has come to an end, marked by constructive and forward-looking engagements with China’s Ministry of Finance, China Exim Bank as well as our key financial and contractor creditors,” he stated.

He explained that the talks weren’t just technical negotiations but deeply tied to the future welfare of Ghanaians and the sustainability of the national economy.

“This mission was not just about numbers and negotiations — it was about safeguarding the future of our economy and the wellbeing of every Ghanaian,” he wrote.

Dr. Forson noted that the ongoing debt restructuring process, which the current opposition leadership inherited, is gradually reaching a resolution, with significant progress made during this visit.

“We are steadily closing this difficult chapter in our economic history, and doing so with a solemn pledge: never again shall our people be subjected to such hardship,” he emphasised.

Looking ahead, the Minority Leader expressed confidence that Ghana is entering a “new era of stability, resilience, and inclusive growth,” assuring the public that the economic turmoil of the past will not define the country’s future.

He concluded with a message of hope: “Ghana will rise stronger from this episode in our history, and together, we will build an economy that delivers for every citizen. Happy New Month!”
