We’re open to providing support in gov’t fight against illegal mining—NPP

General Secretary for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua, has indicated the willingness of the New Patriotic Party to support the government in the fight against illegal mining.
According to him, with the National Democratic Congress’s eleven months in office, it is clear that they have no idea how to deal with the menace.
He believes that the government needs to collaborate with the opposition party in the fight against illegal mining or risk losing the fight totally.
Justin Kodua was speaking at a Press conference when he made this known.
“Any reasonable person in this country will know that the state of galamsey is even worse than it was in the NPP administration. It is clear that galamsey has become worse under this administration because members of parliament who belong to the NDC, from the national office to the region, constituency, and even their branch, who are involved in galamsey, and it is not surprising that the security agencies are struggling to deal with the issue because when they make effort, they are threatened by powers that be in this government.
But for us in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), because we care so much about this country and we mean well for this country, if President John Mahama sees the need and wisdom to reach out to us to have a proper round table discussion to combat this menace once and for all, we gladly welcome such an invitation. The way things are going it is clear that His Excellency John Mahama has failed in the fight against illegal mining,” he said.
