We’re taking the ECG container case seriously – Energy Minister

Energy Minister John Abdulai Jinapor has assured that individuals found culpable in the case involving missing containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) will soon be made to face the law.

He gave the assurance during an engagement with the Parliamentary Committee on Energy and ECG officials, where the ongoing investigations into the disappearance of the containers were discussed.

While addressing the matter, the Minister confirmed that some of the containers, which were previously declared missing, have been found at the port. He noted that investigations are still underway to uncover the full circumstances surrounding their disappearance.

“We are taking this matter very seriously. The recovery of some containers is a step forward, but our goal is to ensure that all those responsible are brought to justice,” Hon. Jinapor said.

He further stated that a full report will be forwarded to the Attorney General to pave the way for legal action against any persons implicated. According to him, the Ministry remains committed to ensuring transparency and accountability in the handling of the case.

The missing containers reportedly contained electrical equipment intended for national distribution projects.

Their disappearance raised concerns within the energy sector, prompting internal audits and follow-ups at various entry points.

It was during this process that some of the containers were discovered at the port, though the circumstances of how they were left there without proper documentation or clearance remain unclear.

Investigations are focused on determining whether the issue was a result of administrative lapses, miscommunication between ECG and port authorities, or a deliberate act of diversion.
