We’ve not reached the point for a rerun in Ablekuma North – Bossman Asare

The Electoral Commission (EC) has clarified that it is not considering an immediate rerun of the 2024 parliamentary election in the Ablekuma North constituency, despite the delay in declaring results.

According to the Commission, the situation has not yet reached the point where a rerun is warranted, as results from three outstanding polling stations are still pending and can be legally collated.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Thursday, June 19, the Deputy Chairperson of the EC in charge of Corporate Affairs, Dr. Bossman Asare, explained that while the process has experienced a setback, the Commission remains hopeful that the remaining results will be obtained and factored into the final outcome.

“So, for Ablekuma North, we have not reached the point where we will say we don’t have the results,” Dr. Asare stated in response to a question posed by members of the House.

“When we try and we cannot get the results, that is when we will resort to the rerun. The rerun will be a last option.”

The delay in collating the remaining results has largely been attributed to security concerns, with the Ghana Police Service yet to receive a clear directive from the Attorney General’s Department on how to proceed with ensuring safe collation.

Despite growing public interest and uncertainty in the constituency, the EC insists that the electoral process must be followed to its logical conclusion before any drastic decisions such as a rerun can be considered.
