High Court withdraws arrest warrant against Director of Passports

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has confirmed that the High Court has officially withdrawn an arrest warrant previously issued against the Director of Passports, Kwasi Asante.
This clears the official of any involvement in the alleged issuance of multiple Ghanaian passports to one Mr. Dominic Williams.
In a press statement released on Thursday, May 23, the Ministry clarified that the incident under investigation occurred before the current Director assumed office on August 19, 2024.
“The matter has been fully resolved, and the Director of Passports has been cleared of any wrongdoing,” the statement read.
“It is important to emphasise that the incident in question predates the Director’s assumption of office.”
According to the Ministry, Mr. Dominic Williams obtained his first Ghanaian passport over 12 years ago, with the most recent issued on January 16, 2024—eight months before the current director took charge.
The Ministry expressed appreciation to the Judiciary for what it described as a swift and impartial handling of the matter.
As part of its commitment to transparency and accountability, the Ministry noted that internal systems at the Passport Office are being strengthened to safeguard the integrity of Ghana’s passport issuance regime.
“We continue to strengthen internal systems and processes to safeguard the integrity of the passport issuance regime,” the statement added.
“The Ministry remains committed to serving the people of Ghana with professionalism and dedication.”
The initial arrest warrant had sparked public concern as it was linked to a broader investigation into passport fraud.
With the Director now cleared, the Ministry is working to restore public confidence in the leadership and operations of the Passport Office.
