Why Asante Kotoko will hire a foreign coach over a local manager next season

Asante Kotoko have confirmed plans to appoint a foreign coach for the next football season, according to the club’s Communications Director, Sarfo Duku.
The Porcupine Warriors recently parted ways with their head coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum, after a poor run of results. In the meantime, the club has named former player Abdul Karim Zito as the caretaker manager until the end of the current season.
Zito, who has previously coached Dreams FC and Ghana’s U-20 team, the Black Satellites, will also work as the club’s Technical Director. He is being assisted by Prince Yaw Owusu, who has experience coaching Medeama SC and Inter Allies.
With only six matches left in the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season, Kotoko’s management is already planning for the future. Speaking to Kessben TV, Sarfo Duku said the club will officially open applications for the head coach position once the season finishes.
At 58, Japanese football legend Kazuyoshi Miura is still playing professionally in his 40th season with fourth-division side Suzuka. This is his intriguing story…
At the end of the season, we will officially open applications for the role of head coach,” Duku said. “This time, management is keen on bringing in a foreign coach who can bring a new perspective, discipline, and fresh tactical direction to the team.
