Why GJA wants NPP’s Alhaji Masawudu arrested immediately
The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has issued a strong condemnation following what it describes as dangerous and undemocratic conduct by a senior official of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The condemnation stems from comments made by the party’s Third National Vice Chairman, Alhaji Osman Masawudu, during a recent radio interview on Kumasi-based Ashh FM, and his actions during a party press conference.
“The actions and comments of Alhaji Masawudu are very reckless, repressive, and regrettable. His actions are not only a threat to human life, but also a threat to the rule of law and our democracy.
“We condemn them in no uncertain terms and call on the NPP’s National Vice Chairman to withdraw his reckless comment and apologize,” the GJA said in a statement, calling for an immediate response from authorities.
The association further urged the Ghana Police Service to take decisive action, warning against complacency.
“We hereby call on the police to act decisively on this case. The police must not sit unconcerned. They must not wait for the worst to happen before they act. We call on the IGP and his team to immediately invite or arrest the NPP Third National Vice Chairman,” the statement continued.
The controversy deepened after Alhaji Masawudu was caught on camera during a recent NPP press conference, forcefully pushing down a microphone belonging to TV3, a Media General outlet.
