Why I carry my mother’s picture everywhere I go – Okyere Baafi shares

Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Michael Okyere Baafi, has shared an emotional story about his late mother, revealing why he has her photos everywhere around him.
Speaking in an interview on Joy Prime monitored by MyNewsGh, Baafi revealed that he lost his mother at just 16, shortly after completing secondary school, a moment that shaped his perspective on life and family.
Baafi, who grew up in the Eastern Region town of Suhyen, recalled that his mother was the only educated wife among his father’s several marriages, a distinction that deeply influenced him and his siblings.
“My mother’s side of the family is different,” he reflected. “We are four, and all of us took education seriously because of her.”
Despite growing up in an environment where schooling was not prioritised, Baafi’s mother encouraged him to persevere.
Her early death, he said, made him even more determined to live a life that honoured her dreams.
According to him, today, he carries her memory not just in photos but in the values that guide his leadership.
