Why I expected Bawumia to resign from NPP – Asah-Asante

Political analyst Dr. Kwame Asah-Asante has praised former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as a capable leader, despite the controversies that dented his reputation during the Akufo-Addo administration.
“I have no doubt in my mind that he is a great leader. People say all manner of negative things about him because of politics, but I beg to differ. He is solid and knows his stuff,” Dr. Asah-Asante said on Prime Morning on Joy Prime.
He however admitted that Bawumia faced serious challenges in his second term as Vice President.
“He was caught in a certain quagmire within Akufo-Addo’s administration.
“He lacked the courage to step out, so the burdens of government continued to rub off him simply because of the position he held. In the first tenure, he worked well and took the credit, but in the second there was a dip, a serious one. I was expecting him to resign.”
Despite these setbacks, Dr. Asah-Asante noted that Bawumia’s political strength remains evident.
Reacting to the latest Global Info Analytics poll showing the 2024 NPP presidential candidate commanding 52% support in the 2026 party primaries, he stressed: “His qualities remain undeniable despite political attacks.”
