Why NPP should snub Bawumia

Bryan Acheampong has explained why Dr Mahamudu Bawumia should be rejected by the party ahead of their internal primaries in January.
According to him, Bawumia’s handling of economic messaging and leadership accountability in the 2024 elections undermines his credibility.
“Bawumia was brought in as a master of the economy, but we did not speak on the economy. Not one tape that we are here as a country…this is going to be the fix,” Acheampong stated in an interview on Good Evening Ghana on Metro TV monitored by MyNewsGh.
He argued that while global economic challenges existed, the responsibility of managing Ghana’s economy ultimately rested with the Vice President.
Acheampong highlighted his own experience, noting his previous digitalization initiatives and hands-on involvement in financial systems.
“I have a PhD in information systems…I digitalized Controller and Accountant General systems, banks, insurance companies…all my handiwork,” he said, contrasting personal accountability with what he described as Bawumia’s passive approach.
He further referenced the failure to translate infrastructure promises into tangible results at the constituency level. “One year to fix the chessboard…The people say they need Kota, we assure them credit scores. That’s miscalibration of messaging,” Acheampong argued.
By linking electoral outcomes to leadership performance, Acheampong framed himself as the candidate capable of delivering both policy coherence and economic credibility for the NPP in future elections.
