Why NPP’s Boateng Agyemang is threatening revolt over Alan Kyerematen’s return

Tensions within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are flaring as Chairman Kwadwo Boateng Agyemang issues a stern warning to the party’s leadership over any plans to readmit former stalwart Alan Kyerematen.

In a fiery outburst, Agyemang declared he would resist any attempt to welcome the former Trade Minister back into the party, insisting that doing so would be a betrayal of loyal members.

“I swear I don’t think he would come. If the party agrees to accept him, we would mobilize our forces and fight against the party,” Agyemang stated, making his opposition unmistakably clear.

Kyerematen, who broke away from the NPP to form his own political movement ahead of the 2024 general elections, has remained a controversial figure within the party since his exit. His possible return has ignited fierce debate, particularly among grassroots members who view his departure as disloyalty.

“If the party receives Alan back, we would demonstrate against NPP leadership,” Agyemang warned, adding to growing frustrations among party faithful who feel betrayed by Kyerematen’s earlier decision to part ways.

The Chairman didn’t mince words as he questioned the logic of granting the former minister what he termed a “second amnesty.”

“What is amnesty, do we issue it twice? If you are the thief and a president pardons you for the first time, would you go and commit the same crime and expect another president to come and grant you another amnesty?”

In a sharp critique of Kyerematen’s political journey, Agyemang also questioned the value of his contributions to the party.

“You are the first person in this country who received his appointment from Akufo-Addo before we won the 2016 election. Alan hasn’t performed than most of us…He is an ingrate.”
