Withdraw the letter immediately – Minority rejects notice of Kpandai vacancy

Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh has demanded the immediate withdrawal of Parliament’s letter notifying the Electoral Commission (EC) of a vacancy in the Kpandai Constituency, describing the move as unlawful.
He argued on the floor of Parliament that the December 4 letter, signed by Clerk to Parliament Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, was issued despite a pending motion for stay of execution.
“The letter was out of place, was unfortunate, and flies in the face of law and procedural justice,” he said. “That letter must be withdrawn forthwith.”
The Parliamentary Service issued the notice after a High Court ordered a rerun of the 2024 Kpandai election, triggering the administrative steps toward a by-election.
The letter to EC Chairperson Jean Mensa cited Article 112(5).
The Minority insists the action is premature and undermines judicial processes.
“We on this side cannot support that decision,” Annoh-Dompreh added, urging the Speaker to instruct the clerk to retract the notice and ensure adherence to proper procedure.
