Wontumi deep in hardship as MoMo, Bank Accounts Get Frozen — Paul Yandoh

The Communication Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, Paul Yandoh, has revealed that Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, is going through severe hardship following the many allegations levelled against him.
Speaking to the media, Yandoh said all of Wontumi’s mobile money accounts, bank accounts, and even his cars have been frozen, leaving him completely stranded.
According to him, “anytime someone tries to send him mobile money, MTN immediately returns the money and sends a message warning that the number should not be sent money again.”
Yandoh described the situation as unprecedented and explained that the challenges facing the NPP Chairman have intensified because of various legal restrictions placed on him.
“His case has been divided into two, so he now has to go to High Court 1 and High Court 4,” he said.
He further disclosed that Wontumi’s routine has become extremely burdensome.
“Every three days, he has to go to EOCO to write his name, and every two weeks he must also report to the CID headquarters to sign another document and take it back to the High Court,” he stated.
According to him, Wontumi’s media businesses have also been affected.
“His radio stations in Kumasi, Takoradi and Accra have all been closed down,” Yandoh lamented.
He added that although the court suggested that Wontumi’s bank account should be temporarily opened to give him access to funds, “the Attorney General refused, so the account is still locked.”
To demonstrate how dire the situation has become, Yandoh recounted a personal experience.
“I tried to send him just GHS 500 to support him, but the money came back instantly. The network sent it back,” he said.
With all financial channels blocked, Yandoh noted that communication with the embattled regional chairman is also limited.
“Because of everything happening, the only way to reach him now is through WhatsApp calls. He has been deprived of a lot,” he added.
