Wool is being pulled over our eyes – Martin Amidu slams Ayine over Duffuor settlement

Martin Amidu has sharply criticised Attorney-General Dominic Ayine’s justification for discontinuing the criminal case against Dr. Kwabena Duffuor and others involved in the UNIBANK saga.
Referring to Ayine’s public explanation for filing a nolle prosequi, Amidu argued that the state still had legal grounds to pursue financial recovery through civil proceedings, regardless of the outcome of the criminal trial.
“Even if the accused persons were acquitted after the criminal trial, the State could still pursue the recovery of the total amount of GH₵1.2 billion as part of the civil case,” he stated.
He dismissed Ayine’s assertion of taking a “pragmatic, wholistic approach” as insufficient, stressing that the decision to abandon the prosecution cannot withstand legal scrutiny.
Amidu further questioned the credibility of the supposed settlement agreement. He accused the Attorney-General of misleading the public with claims of oversight mechanisms without providing evidence of a binding court-approved judgment.
“The Attorney-General’s statement… is bogus and fraudulent. Publish the entire settlement agreement and let Ghanaians do the maths and reasoning for themselves!” he demanded.
Closing his critique with a stern warning, Amidu declared, “Wool is being pulled over our eyes,” and described the move as a private arrangement disguised as a legitimate legal outcome. He called on the public to interrogate the process, especially when those behind it, in his view, are compromised.
