You don’t need a UN Report

Kwaku Sintim-Misa has weighed in on the recent military recruitment stampede in Accra and Kumasi, describing it as one of the clearest indicators of Ghana’s unemployment crisis during the KSM show monitored by MyNewsGh.
Authorities confirmed six deaths in Accra and multiple injuries across both locations during the rush for Ghana Armed Forces application forms.
Reacting to the images, KSM said, “You don’t need any academic report to tell you we have a massive unemployment problem in this country.”
He stressed that the scale of the incident—about 20,000 young people vying for forms—reflects the desperation of the country’s youth.
“The youth is the future of Ghana,” he said. “When you see over 20,000 youth struggling to get application forms, that tells you everything.”
KSM contrasted Ghana’s situation with recruitment in countries like the United States.
“There, the Marines say ‘the few, the proud’. They are going with the willingness to fight for America. But here, it is unemployment. They are not rushing because they want war. They are rushing because there are no jobs.”
He urged policymakers to treat the event as a wake-up call, not an isolated tragedy.
“Look at these pictures,” he said while displaying footage. “You see it at every traffic light. You see it in the villages. You see it everywhere. The problem is staring us in the face.”
KSM concluded that addressing youth unemployment must be elevated beyond political messaging. “The youth own Ghana,” he said. “If we fail them, we fail the country.”
