You had a chance to say sorry – MP slams NPP posture at conference

Member of Parliament for Afadjato South, Frank Afriyie, has criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership for what he describes as an arrogant and tone-deaf attitude during their National Delegates Conference.

The MP expressed disappointment in the party’s posture, particularly in light of what he called their “abysmal performance” in the 2024 elections.

“The glorious opportunity that the NPP had after their abysmal performance in 2024 was what they had at the conference.

“What I expected them to do was to apologise to Ghanaians and say that they are extremely sorry,” Afriyie stated on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Monday, July 21.

Instead, he said, the party chose to project an image of resilience and invincibility, which he believes was ill-timed and insensitive.

“But when you come and say that we are not broken, we are fighters, and we have never been defeated, it is somehow. If you want to build, build on the notice of trust,” he added.

The lawmaker also cited the impact of what he referred to as “a faulty policy that never materialised” and “the imposed hardship” Ghanaians endured under the NPP government, insisting the party’s messaging should have focused on rebuilding public trust.

“But when you come on such a big platform and tell Ghanaians that when you come, you will do worse, I see that as problematic,” Afriyie concluded.
