You may lose the goodwill you’re enjoying soon-Mahama told

Policy Analyst, Dr Steve Manteaw is of the view that the President of Ghana may soon lose the goodwill he is enjoying from the Ghanaian people.

His argument is premised on the kind of appointments the president has made in recent times.

To him, so many square pegs are being put in round holes, and that is worrying for the president, who has had the overwhelming support of the people.

Dr Steve Manteaw expressed this opinion in a Facebook post sighted by MyNewsGh.com.

“Truth be told, some recent Mahama appointments don’t cut well. He must watch it, lest he loses the public goodwill he enjoys,” he said.

On his part, Chairman of the Constitutional Amendment committee, H. Kwasi Prempeh who commented on the issue, indicated that it is about time a limit is placed on the direct appointments by a president in Ghana to help the country get quality materials for positions.

“When a President is vested with power to make too many appointments, quality control, including due diligence and oversight, both in the appointment phase and post-appointment performance monitoring, is bound to suffer. The ultimate solution is to limit the number of direct appointments a president can make, including by defining clear meritocratic criteria and qualifications for certain appointments,” he said.
