A young woman, believed to be in her early 20s, has died after being shot in Seker, a community in the Pru East District, on the afternoon of Monday, June 10.
According to police, the incident occurred around 3:00pm when the victim visited the village with her alleged boyfriend and two of his friends. She sustained a gunshot wound to her left arm during the visit under unclear circumstances.
The group was reportedly fleeing the scene in a vehicle when they were intercepted by police. The injured woman was immediately transported to St. Martin’s Hospital in Yeji, but she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The alleged shooter, identified as 31-year-old Hayford Boateng — believed to be the victim’s boyfriend — has been arrested. His two companions, Kojo Emmanuel, 28, and Michael Kabutey, 34, are also in police custody to assist with investigations.
The Yeji Police Command has launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
