NCA moves to suspend Multichoice Ghana’s licence

The National Communications Authority (NCA) has notified Multichoice Ghana Limited of its intention to suspend its authorisation for providing subscription management services for satellite television broadcasting in Ghana.
In a press release dated August 7, 2025, the NCA cited Section 13 of the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775), as the legal basis for the move. The regulator explained that the decision follows concerns about Multichoice Ghana’s pricing model, which it considers “inimical to the public interest.”
According to the NCA, the company’s pricing approach triggered regulatory action, although specific details were not disclosed in the statement.
The NCA has granted Multichoice Ghana a 30-day window to respond. Within this period, the company can present its position, offer remedial measures, and submit a formal written objection to the planned suspension.
The NCA is the statutory body responsible for licensing and regulating electronic communication activities in the country.
The outcome of this case could have significant implications for Ghana’s pay-TV landscape, particularly for DSTV and GOtv subscribers, both of which are operated under the Multichoice brand.
