You’re punishing the poor with this bail – Adom-Otchere’s counsel to OSP

Paul Adom-Otchere’s lawyer, Nicholas Lenin Anane Agyei, has strongly criticised the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for what he describes as punitive and unfair bail conditions imposed on his client.

Anane Agyei expressed deep concern about the terms required for Adom-Otchere’s temporary release.

“It is unreasonable in the context of bail to require an accused person to produce properties in his own name. What the OSP is essentially saying is that persons who lack property or are poor people in this country cannot make bail in this country,” he argued in an interview on Channel One’s Newsroom.

The criticism comes after the OSP reportedly set a bail condition requiring Adom-Otchere to provide two landed properties registered in his name.

According to his legal team, this demand is not only excessive but also fundamentally flawed, given that Adom-Otchere himself disclosed during profiling that he does not own any landed property.

“The shocking fact is that while taking the profile of the suspect, the suspect indicated that he does not own any landed property, and so for the OSP to set two landed properties in his name, precedent for his bail condition, it is essentially concluding to hang him and detain him. We find the bail condition very unreasonable,” Anane Agyei stated.

He further hinted at legal action, making it clear that Adom-Otchere’s team would not allow the matter to go unchallenged.

“We will explore all legal avenues to ensure that Mr. Adom-Otchere is freed,” he declared.
