Dampare should have resigned after Mahama’s victory – Vim Lady

Ghanaian broadcaster Afia Pokua, widely recognized as Vim Lady, has weighed in on the controversy surrounding the dismissal of Inspector General of Police (IGP) George Akuffo Dampare.
Speaking on her live show, Gyaso Gyaso monitored by MyNewsGH, she suggested that Dampare could have spared himself the current turmoil and potential embarrassment by stepping down immediately after John Dramani Mahama’s victory in the 2024 presidential elections.
“Dampare should have resigned right after Mahama won. It was obvious that Mahama’s administration wouldn’t work with him because of his ties to the previous government,” she stated.
Vim Lady also expressed surprise at the sudden progress in the investigation of journalist Ahmed Suale’s murder case following the appointment of the new IGP, Christian Tetteh Yohuno.
She questioned the timing of the breakthrough, particularly the arrest of a new suspect.
“How is it that the case remained stagnant for years, and suddenly, as soon as a new IGP takes over, there is movement?
“Did the police already have this information and just sat on it while Dampare was in charge?” she asked.
The media personality further linked Dampare’s dismissal to his leadership style, arguing that his failure to promote certain officers and his approach to managing the service contributed to his downfall.
“The police service is a decentralized institution, but Dampare weakened the structure to centralize everything around himself. That was always going to cause problems,” she asserted.
