Empower minds, shape futures – Dr Apaak champions education reform at UEW Lectures series

Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, has emphasized the pivotal role of educational institutions like the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), in shaping the future of Ghana’s development.
Speaking at the university’s public lecture series on Friday, April 11, 2025, Dr. Apaak declared: “The 21st century presents both immense opportunities and complex challenges. We need an education system that is dynamic, inclusive, and future-oriented.”
Standing in for the Minister for Education, who was attending a national assignment involving the inauguration of the Ghana Education Trust Fund Board—Dr. Apaak affirmed the ministry’s alignment with the event’s theme: Empowering Minds, Shaping Futures for the 21st Century.
“We are committed to creating an ecosystem that supports lifelong learning, teacher development, and the integration of digital tools,” he said. “But policy alone is not enough. We need institutions like UEW to lead the charge in re-imagining teacher education.”
Dr. Apaak called on the university’s lecturers and stakeholders to go beyond traditional methods. “Our teachers must not just be transmitters of information, but facilitators of learning, mentors, and role models.”
To the students present, he delivered an inspiring charge: “You are the future of this nation. Embrace learning not just as an end, but as a lifelong pursuit. Your curiosity and purpose will shape the future of Ghana and beyond.”
He ended on a powerful note, quoting Nelson Mandela: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. Let us wield this weapon wisely.”
The event, held at the Jophus Anamuah-Mensah Conference Centre, saw a gathering of scholars, students, and stakeholders, united by a shared goal—transforming education for a better Ghana.
