GMet predicts mix of sunshine and rain across Ghana today

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has announced that partly cloudy conditions will prevail over most parts of the country this morning, with patches of mist expected over coastal, forest, and mountainous areas, particularly in the early hours.
According to GMet’s 24-hour forecast valid from 6:00 a.m. today, northern Ghana will generally experience sunny weather this afternoon, while southern parts of the country—including the forest and coastal zones—are expected to see a mix of sunshine and intermittent cloud cover.
By late afternoon into the evening, thunderstorms or rainfall are anticipated in several areas, particularly in the middle belt, transitional zones, and parts of the north.
GMet attributes this to a weak rainstorm observed over northern Benin, which is expected to drift westward and induce cloudiness and rain over northern Ghana.
The forecast also highlights that the sea state is expected to remain rough, urging caution for maritime activities.
City-specific outlook:
- Accra, Kasoa, and Axim: Morning cloudy skies, sunny intervals in the afternoon, and partly cloudy conditions by evening.
- Cape Coast and Takoradi: Likely thunderstorms (30% chance) in the morning, followed by sunny intervals.
- Ho and Koforidua: Misty conditions early, with possible thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.
- Kumasi and Obuasi: Partly cloudy with sunny periods, with potential thunderstorms (40%) in the evening.
- Yendi, Tamale, and Bolgatanga: Possible thunderstorms in the morning and evening, with sunny spells in the afternoon.
- Wa and Damongo: Cloudy morning, sunny conditions in the afternoon, with a 40% chance of thunderstorms in the evening.
GMet continues to advise the public to stay informed with updated weather alerts, especially those in areas prone to thunderstorms. The agency urges the public to take necessary precautions as the day progresses.
