NPP not deploying vigilantes, protection will be legal – Nana B

Henry Nana Boakye, widely known as Nana B, has assured that the party will take only lawful steps to protect its members during the upcoming Akwatia by-election slated for Tuesday, September 2.
The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) stressed that the NPP has no intention of deploying vigilantes or engaging in any unlawful activity.
“We have said that it is important that we protect ourselves. Self-protection is well defined within the remit of the law.
“We are not going to deploy any thugs. We are not going to deploy any vigilantes. No, but what we have said is that we are going to protect ourselves. I am not sure that is a crime,” Nana B said on Citi Eyewitness News.
He clarified that the party’s measures would remain lawful and not infringe on any legal provisions.
“We will protect ourselves. All that we are saying is that the protection will not be unlawful. The protection will not infringe on any laws whatsoever. It will not be an act of illegality,” he added.
According to him, the decision stems from recent violent incidents at Ablekuma North, where NPP supporters reportedly came under attack despite the presence of security officers. He maintained that the party could not take chances as it heads into another crucial by-election.
