Music is the reason I’m still standing at 60

At 60, legendary sound engineer and producer Fred Kyei Mensah says retirement is not part of his vocabulary.

He revealed that music continues to sustain him emotionally and financially, even after enduring life-altering losses.

“There’s no retirement for me,” he said with a smile during an interview with Kafui Dei monitored by MyNewsGh.

“When I’m feeling down, I just sit at my keyboard and play. Life goes on. Music keeps me alive.”

He shared that despite the challenges of the industry, including betrayals from people he once helped, his love for sound creation remains unshaken.

“I wake up some mornings scrolling through my phone to see who I can call to beg for help,” he confessed. “It’s humbling, but music keeps me sane. It’s the only thing that has never left me.”

Fred, affectionately known as Fredyma, said he owes his survival and success to the generosity of people who believed in him during hard times.

“All the cars I have now were gifts,” he revealed. “I didn’t buy one. My music opened those doors for me.”

For him, music is more than a profession, it’s a divine purpose that continues to give him hope.
