Atta Akyea questions EOCO’s motives in former NSB director’s bail saga

Samuel Atta Akyea, legal counsel for former National Signals Bureau (NSB) Director Kwabena Adu-Boahene, has strongly criticized the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) for imposing what he describes as arbitrary and unreasonable bail conditions on his client.
Speaking in an exclusive interview on GHOne TV with Bernice Abu-Baidoo, Atta Akyea accused EOCO of using bail as a tool of punishment rather than its intended purpose of ensuring an accused person’s availability for investigations and trial.
“Bail is not meant to punish an accused person but to ensure their availability for investigations and trial. However, the conditions imposed by EOCO are excessive and deliberately crafted to keep my client in detention,” he stated.
He further questioned EOCO’s insistence on rejecting reasonable bail options, arguing that their approach was an abuse of power.
“If an accused person is willing to provide security for bail, why should EOCO reject reasonable options and insist on properties outside the jurisdiction? That is a clear abuse of power,” Atta Akyea remarked.
His comments have raised concerns about fairness in EOCO’s handling of high-profile cases. Meanwhile, EOCO is yet to officially respond to the allegations.
