Attorney General pushes to revoke bail in Adu-Boahene cyber fraud case

A private in-camera hearing is underway today. May 2, 2025, at the Accra High Court in the ongoing criminal case involving the former head of the National Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, who is facing multiple charges including stealing, money laundering, and abuse of public office.
The session is being presided over by Justice John Eugene Nyadu Nyante, with Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine and lead defence counsel Ataa Akyea in attendance.
At the heart of today’s hearing is the Attorney General’s request to revoke Adu-Boahene’s bail on grounds that he allegedly attempted to interfere with witnesses involved in the case.
The judge is expected to rule on whether Adu-Boahene should be remanded into prison custody pending further trial proceedings.
Adu-Boahene, along with his wife, a third individual, and their company, are facing 11 criminal charges. They have all pleaded not guilty.
The case stems from a controversial cybersecurity contract with an Israeli firm, which prosecutors say was secured through fraudulent means during his tenure as head of the Signals Bureau.
The prosecution alleges that the accused used his public office to facilitate illegal payments and launder proceeds from the contract.
However, the defence maintains that the deal followed due process and that the charges are politically motivated.
The case has drawn public interest due to Adu-Boahene’s former role in national security and the high-profile nature of the accused and legal teams.
The judge’s decision on bail is expected later today or in the coming days.
