Haruna Iddrisu backs Naana Jane for first female presidency
Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has declared his strong belief that Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang could break new ground by becoming Ghana’s first female President.
During her working visit to the Ministry of Education, Mr. Iddrisu openly praised her leadership and pledged “unwavering support” should she pursue the presidency. “It is my personal wish that you are elevated to become the first female President of our country,” he said.
The Vice President’s engagements come at a time when political surveys point to her rising influence.
An April 2025 Global InfoAnalytics poll placed her ahead of the field with 26% voter preference, followed by Mr. Iddrisu at 19% and Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson at 12%. NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia and Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa both tied at 10%.
However, when Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s name is excluded from polling, Mr. Iddrisu emerges as frontrunner with 27%, narrowly ahead of Mr. Nketia on 26% and Dr. Forson on 22%, while Julius Debrah and Mr. Ablakwa trail at 11% and 8% respectively.
